Overview of Shenyang International Flower & Gardening Exposition 2006

International Flower & Gardening Exposition is a specialized international exposition approved by AIPH, an international horticulture and flower organization. It has been held for 17 times by now, most of which are in developed countries in Europe and America. It has been held in Asia for three times, i.e. in Osaka and Shizuoka, Japan, and Kunming, China.

Shenyang started the work of applying for International Flower & Gardening Exposition in October 2003. The formal application for A2+B1 category International Flower & Gardening Exposition was made to AIPH in February 2004, which went through the preliminary check organized by AIPH Operating Committee at the end of March 2004, and was approved upon the final application statement made at AIPH council on September 1, 2004.

Shenyang International Flower & Gardening Exposition 2006 will be held between May 1 and October 31, 2006, lasting 180 days. The sponsor is State Trade Promotion Commission, China Flower Association and Liaoning Provincial Government. It is undertaken by Shenyang Municipal Government. “International Exposition Garden ” is centered by the southern area of Shenyang Botanical Garden which has already been completed and the northern area that is still under construction. It will be expanded to the east and the south, covering a total area of over 5 square kilometers as programmed, topping the list in terms of area coverage among all held previously.

The construction of “International Exposition Garden” will include two large blocks, i.e. horticultural sightseeing area and recreation entertainment area, consisting of four parts specifically:

•  Horticultural show. This is the major part and the kernel element of the exposition. Innovations will be based on requirements raised by AIPH. The construction includes: the square of main entrance to the garden, international garden area, domestic garden area, indoor exhibition halls (comprehensive hall and rainforest hall), theme gardens, special flower streets and green valley.

•  Recreation and entertainment. Recreational and entertainment area will be built in the eastern expansion zone by using flowers, grass, and trees so as to integrate horticultural arts with recreation and entertainment, and exhibit another new gardening style. The symbolic building is the large square for performance. Other recreational facilities such as agricultural manors with flavors of different countries, large pleasure grounds, children's paradise, miniature of world symbolic buildings, world custom streets and driving theatres, etc..

•  The comprehensive services will be integrated with constructions in the garden. The constructions include tourists reception center, large parking lots, souvenir shops, flower transaction center, delicious food street, cafe and bars etc..
