Kunming International Flower & Gardening Exposition 99'

The site for the International Flower & Gardening Exposition held in Kunming in 1999 was in the scenic spot in the northern suburb of Kunming city, covering a land area of 218 hectares, lasting 184 days. Kunming International Flower & Gardening Exposition 99' was A1 category specialized world exposition formally registered and approved by BIE and AIPH. The theme of the international exposition was “man and nature—stepping into the 21 st century”.

Preparations were started in 1996 and lasted about three years in succession. On May 1, 1999, Kunming International Flower & Gardening Exposition 99' was opened ceremoniously. On October 31, it came to a successful end. As many as 95 countries and international organizations attended the exposition (including 69 countries and 26 international organizations). In half a year, 9.43 million tourists from home and abroad visited the exposition garden.

The exposition garden covers a land area of 218 hectares with plant coverage of 90%, gathering elaborate works and constructions of gardening and horticulture in our country and many other countries in the world. The exposition garden includes:

Five large indoor exhibition halls: China Hall, International Hall, Man and Nature Hall, Science and Technology Hall, and Large Greenhouse.

Seven them exhibition gardens: Tree Garden, Herb Garden, Bamboo Garden, Vegetable, Melon and Fruit Garden, Potted Landscape Garden, Tea Garden, and Famous Flower & Strange Stone Garden

Two million plants of over 2500 types are planted inside the garden, among which 112 species are rare and endangered plants. 319 kinds of bamboos are available in the Bamboo Garden. Flowers of various types are changed frequently and are in blossom all the year round.
